Welcome to our Website

The Avenue Uniting Church Blackburn is a congregation of the
Uniting Church in Australia, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria
.
We are an open and diverse community of people who find
inspiration in the life and teachings of Jesus, and attempt to
live our lives accordingly – which is quite a challenge!

God’s unconditional love for all people is at the heart of our faith.
And so we hope that people of all ethnicities and languages, people with special needs,
people who are single and those who are married or partnered,
people who identify across a diversity of gender and sexual identity and expression,
will all feel welcome at this church.

We are open to new understandings of what faith means in the

contemporary world, and new ways of expressing it.
Many of us are involved in caring for others, or seeking justice
for marginalised people in our own community and beyond.

We are people of all ages, and from many different backgrounds.
Pastoral care for those within the congregation and in the
wider community is a strong feature of our church life.

Our Vision
Our vision is to be a vital Christian faith community ---

- outward looking and compassionate, welcoming and accepting of all;
-  engaging with others in the wider community to work for justice
    and to offer opportunities for people to live fuller and more satisfying lives;
-  growing in understanding of the life and teachings of Jesus,
    and their relevance in today’s world;
- valuing diversity, respecting one another’s gifts, experiences and needs,
   caring for one another, and  for our planet;
-  respectful of tradition but not bound by the past;
    open to new understandings and new ways of ‘being church’ in a rapidly changing society.
